I enjoyed making the mats very much, mounting then on 12mm thick 'mdf'
with a layer of carpet underlay to provide extra protection - it was satisfying
and fun!
I wanted to thank you for these mats, which we have used to create a Japanese style room in which my wife teaches and we relax.
The smell of the fresh goza was lovely, and even after 1 year they still add a unique fresh scent to the room.

I have bought 2 tatami mats when I returned to Japan
at the Morita shop and
brought them to Italy, where
I live. The Turin airport customs guys got so
curious (and suspicious)
about my
long and big package that I was about
to be ordered to open it.
Fortunately I succeeded in convincing them that it
was a simple
"Japanese carpet".. (The invoice in English played an important
role.)
My friend Tony and I have chosen to use a wood panel which
is
called "truciollare" in italian. It is a mass of piece of wood chips,
I
guess. We also applied a transparent plastic sheet at the back of the
panel
so that Tatami won't get humid. That was a Tony's suggestion.
It
took about 1 hour for making each, and it wasn't difficult for Tony
to do the
work as he is used to using tools such as staplers.
Good tatamis have changed
my life in Italy as I do love life with
Tatamis.
I read, write and drink
green tea on them.. People who come to my home
are also happy to see them (as they are so oriental..) relax on them.
